Words are powerful!
They can attract or repel with tidal wave force. An equally thrilling and daunting prospect. Professionally speaking, however, writing or saying it ‘right’ feels like a huge responsibility. And for good reason, because when it comes to your message the stakes are high. For once you consign your message to the public, you are those words, they represent you.
Attractive words are moving. They capture us and hold our minds in a trance. Endorphins are released as a bond is formed and our emotions become entangled and invested. The words then ignite us into action. We decide in an instant to run instead of walk.
Sounds good right! Feels good too :)
However, used incorrectly or carelessly, words can have an opposing negative reaction, with irreparable consequences. A lifelong obstinance can be created, fuelled dangerously by adrenalin.
While we all aim with sincerity to attract with our words, the truth is we are usually far from danger, as our words fall flat in the middle of nowhere. We become mediocre. Our words have unwittingly placed us in the “safe zone” where we’re lost, overlooked, or forgotten.
Now that you have been reminded of the fine line between positive and negative reaction, and the dreaded safe zone, it’s time to brood a little, and ask yourself the questions:
Which words are the right words? Which words deliver my message with clear intent? Which words will reach my audience’s heart? Which words will form a connection that will produce action and loyalty?
